Ranchi: Preparations are in full swing to transform the Ranchi Ring Road into a green mobility corridor. A team from the Field Survey Division of the Road Construction Department recently conducted an on-site inspection of the Ring Road.
Under the proposed plan, dedicated cycle tracks, pedestrian footpaths, green verges, solar roofs, and solar lighting systems will be developed along a 40-kilometre stretch adjacent to the service roads on both sides.

Preparations Underway, DPR Expected Within 1.5 Months
Following a directive from Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Road Construction Department began work on its action plan. Speaking to Jagran.com, officials stated that a consultant is currently conducting a detailed survey to assess the available land along the Ring Road.
The alignment of the project will be determined based on this survey report. Once the alignment receives a nod from the state government, the department will prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Officials aim to finalise the DPR within the next one and a half months, allowing construction to begin soon after the monsoon season.
Once completed, the Ring Road will transform from a simple vehicular route into a modern green mobility corridor equipped with dedicated cycle tracks, footpaths, green belts, and solar energy systems.
A Look At The Upcoming Green Mobility Corridor
- Under the proposed plan, dedicated cycle tracks and safe footpaths will be built along the service roads to promote non-motorised transport and ensure safe pedestrian movement.
- This entire corridor will feature green belts along the roadside to create an environmentally friendly landscape.
- Additionally, solar roofs and panels will be installed along the Ring Road to generate electricity for street lighting and other public utilities, significantly reducing energy costs and ensuring the road remains well-illuminated at night.
- This Ring Road serves as a crucial bypass for vehicles heading towards Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Khunti, Gumla and Palamu. This route allows a large volume of traffic to reach its destination without entering Ranchi, significantly reducing congestion within the city.
