The final rites for the esteemed industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata were conducted with full state honours at a crematorium in central Mumbai on Thursday evening. The Mumbai police honoured Tata with a gun salute. Family members, including his half-brother Noel Tata, along with senior executives from the Tata Group, such as chairman N Chandrasekaran, were in attendance at the Worli crematorium.

His final rites, conducted according to Parsi traditions as confirmed by a priest, will be followed by three additional days of rituals at Tata's bungalow in Colaba, south Mumbai. In honour of his passing, all government buildings will display the national flag at half-mast, and no cultural or entertainment events will take place.

Thousands gathered to catch a final glimpse of Tata. Notable figures paying their respects to business tycoon Ratan Tata included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, and industrialist Mukesh Ambani. 

The body of the industrial tycoon was placed at the NCPA Lawns in Nariman Point for the public to pay their final respects before being taken for a state funeral in Worli.

Ratan Tata passed away at a Mumbai hospital late on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the age of 86. The chairman emeritus of the Tata Group was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on Monday, October 7, 2024, due to age-related complications and to manage his blood pressure.
