Are Banks Open Or Closed Today?: Across India, banks, including major institutions like the State Bank of India (SBI), observe closures on specific days as mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These include all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Today, September 23, 2025, is a regular working day for most banks in India, except in Jammu and Srinagar, where both public and private banks will remain closed to commemorate the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, the last ruling monarch of Jammu and Kashmir.
Check Upcoming Bank Holidays This Week
In addition to today’s regional closure, here’s a look at other bank holidays scheduled for the week of September 23–30, 2025:
- September 23 (Tuesday): Banks in Jammu and Srinagar will be closed for Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birthday.
- September 27–28 (Saturday–Sunday): Nationwide bank closures due to the second Saturday and Sunday, as per RBI guidelines.
- September 29–30 (Monday–Tuesday): Banks in cities such as Agartala, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Imphal, Jaipur, Patna, and Ranchi will be shut for Durga Puja, specifically for Maha Saptami and Maha Ashtami celebrations.
Banking Services During Holidays
While physical bank branches will be closed on these days, digital banking services remain fully operational. Customers can access ATMs, online banking platforms, mobile apps, and digital payment systems for:
- Fund transfers
- Bill payments
- Deposits
- Loan applications
However, services requiring in-person visits, such as bulk cash deposits, issuing demand drafts, or finalizing account settlements, will not be available on these holidays.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Inconvenience
To ensure smooth financial transactions, residents and businesses are encouraged to plan, especially in regions affected by these closures. Checking your bank’s holiday schedule and completing critical in-person transactions beforehand can help avoid disruptions.
