Reasi Attack: As many as 50 suspects have been detained so far in connection with the deadly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Reasi district last week, officials said on Thursday. The attack, which took place on Sunday (June 9), marked the beginning of a series of terror-related incidents in the Jammu division, the last of which took place on Wednesday in the Doda district.

The attack in Reasi involved terrorists opening fire on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims. The firing caused the vehicle to plunge into a gorge, resulting in the deaths of at least nine pilgrims and injuring 42 others.

"District Police Reasi have detained 50 individuals in connection with the recent terrorist attack on a pilgrims' bus in the Kanda area of Police Station Pouni. The incident, which occurred on 09.06.2024, resulted in several casualties and left the community in shock and grief," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Mohita Sharma was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Thursday.

The official also said that search operations have been extended to remote areas. "To ensure a comprehensive probe, search operations have been expanded to encompass the far-flung areas of Arnas and Mahore. These operations aim to uncover further evidence and apprehend terrorists who may be hiding in these remote regions," she stated.

Jammu Terrorist Attacks: Overview

Just two days after the attack in Reasi, two separate encounters took place between security forces and terrorists in the Doda and Kathua districts in Jammu. On Tuesday evening, security forces and terrorists engaged in a gunfight in Doda's Chattergala area around the same time as another encounter in the Hira Nagar area of the neighbouring Kathua district.

The encounter in Kathua lasted till Wednesday afternoon, culminating with casualties on both sides. While a CRPF trooper lost his life in the anti-terror operation in Kathua, two terrorists were neutralised by the security forces. The encounter and a subsequent search operation in Kathua followed an attack by terrorists on civilians in Saida Sukhal village in the border area of Hira Nagar.

The encounter in Chattergala was followed by another encounter in Doda within 24 hours, this time in the Gandoh area of the district. The gunfight in Gandoh left a policeman injured. Earlier, the encounter in Chattergala had resulted in five Army personnel and a special police officer (SPO) sustaining injuries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the prevailing security situation in J&K.
