The Delhi Crime Branch has arrested a man in connection with the theft of two golden kalash worth an estimated Rs 1.5 crore from a religious event held opposite the Red Fort. Special commissioner of police (crime) Devesh Srivastava said the suspect, identified as Bhushan Verma, was tracked down and arrested five days later in Hapur, a neighboring district.

Raids are underway to recover the stolen kalash after police received a call on Wednesday reporting the theft of a one-kilogram gold kalash from the Kotwali area in north Delhi. CCTV footage captured a man leaving the venue with the valuables, prompting an investigation and the registration of an FIR under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kotwali police station.

Gold Kalash Stolen From Red Fort Updates 

1. A major theft was reported at Delhi’s Red Fort during a religious ritual.

2. Items stolen include a big jhari gold coconut and gold weighing about 760 grams, along with a small jhari studded with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.

3. Businessman Sudhir Jain used to bring a Kalash daily for worship, studded with gold, diamonds, and emeralds, weighing around 760 grams of gold and 150 grams of precious stones.

4. On Tuesday, he brought the Kalash as usual and placed it on the stage for the ritual.

5. The program was being held in the same park where Independence Day celebrations are organised, and was scheduled to continue till 9th September.

6. During the event, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla joined the program, and when his welcome began, attention shifted away from the stage.

7. After the welcome ceremony, organisers noticed the Kalash was missing.

8. Initially, they thought it might have been misplaced, but searches confirmed it had been stolen.

9. CCTV footage showed a suspect leaving the venue with the valuables.

10. The accused has been identified from the footage, and police have launched an investigation, expressing confidence of an early arrest.
