Darshan Thoogudeepa, popular Kannada film actor who is fondly addressed as 'D Boss' by his fans, has been facing charges of murder of one of his die-hard fans, Renukaswamy of Chitradurga, whose body was found in a rainwater drain in Bengaluru's Sumanahalli on June 9. Initially confessed to by four young men, the chilling details of the murder, which surfaced in an intense police investigation, shook the whole nation. On June 11, the city police reached Darshan's hotel in Mysuru, where he was staying while shooting his latest film 'Devil' and arrested him in what can be called the first case of its type - a die-hard fan murdered by a 'reel' life hero but allegedly a real-life villain.

Further investigation revealed 'why' the cruel fate struck Renukaswamy. Police arrested Darshan's girlfriend and Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda, accusing her of instigating the star to commit the murder. According to the police, Renukaswamy had sent some 'indecent and derogatory' messages and photos to Pavitha, who complained to Thoogudeepa.
