Kolkata Protests:  Mother of RG Kar rape and murder victim strongly condemned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's alleged threatening remarks addressed to the protesting doctors of state-run hospitals on Friday, saying she wanted the protestors to continue the protests until her daughter gets justice. Remarks of the Victim's mother came as CM Mamata faced heavy criticism for her controversial remarks during a TMC meeting where she said if FIR is filed against the doctors, their career will be ruined.

Her statement also drew ire from the opposition quarters and the doctors' bodies, which termed the statement as 'veiled threats'. Speaking to ANI over Mamata's remarks, Abhaya's (name changed) mother said that she did not like what the Chief Minister said yesterday.

"I want them (protestors) to continue the movement until they get justice. The Chief Minister said the family does not want justice! Mamata has no son or daughter herself, so she cannot understand the pain of losing a child," she said, adding that the family was very hurt by Mamata's comments.

"I didn't like what she (Mamata Banerjee) said yesterday. The whole world stands by my daughter. They are protesting, agitating for justice. And she says we do not want justice," she said.

What Mamata Banerjee Had Said

In a speech during the 27th foundation day rally of the West Bengal Trinamool Chhatra Parishad in Kolkata on Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee asked the protesting doctors to join their duties.

“I support the junior doctors’ agitation. They are protesting because their colleagues have been raped and murdered. We will not take any action against you, but I appeal to you to join work. The Supreme Court also requested the doctors to join work,” Banerjee said at the foundation day event.

“The Supreme Court had also appealed to junior doctors to join work. One must remember that the SC said that it was up to the state government to take action. We didn’t take action. If an FIR is filed against you, your future will be ruined. He or she won’t get a passport or visa,” the Chief Minister added.

CM Later Issued Clarification

After her statement drew severe criticism from the doctors as well as opposition parties, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a clarification in a social media post. While she denied making threats against the protesting doctors, she had said that some media organisations were running a “malicious disinformation campaign” against her.
