RG Kar Rape-Murder Case:  Another flashpoint between the centre and the West Bengal government has surfaced over the accommodation and transport facilities for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel stationed at the RG Kar medical college and hospital, where a doctor was brutally raped and murdered last month. The Union government on Tuesday moved to the Supreme Court, contending that the Bengal government must provide housing facilities to the CISF personnel providing safety to RG Kar College.

In its plea in front of the apex court, the centre said that duty personnel are facing a lot of difficulties in performing duties due to non-availability of accommodation, security gadgets and paucity of transportation.

The personnel are stationed at the accommodation of CISF's city unit, the Ministry of Home Affairs said, adding, that they are travelling for over an hour to reach the hospital. The plea further sought directions to West Bengal to extend full cooperation to the CISF and ensure full compliance, in letter and spirit, with the order dated August 20. It said that contempt proceedings must be initiated for wilful non-compliance of the order.

Doctors Protest Against Kolkata CP

Meanwhile, hundreds of doctors protested outside the Police Headquarters against the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's rape-murder incident. They demanded the removal of the Commissioner of Police from the city's top police post.

"... We asked the CP if he was satisfied with his work. He said that he is satisfied with his work but if the higher authorities consider our deputation and remove him from his position and send him somewhere else, then he will accept that happily... We were protesting here because we wanted to submit the deputation, we have done that so now we are closing the protest from here, but our protest will continue, we are only winding it up from here (Police Headquarters)...," said a doctor who was protesting out the Kolkata Police Headquarters today.
