At least four people have died, and several others have been injured after a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi's Saidul Ajaib area near Saket Metro Station on Saturday evening. Two officials of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) have been suspended in connection with the incident.
Immediately after the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed that immediate necessary action be taken and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the collapse under the District Magistrate. Mehrauli police station has also registered a case against the owners.

The Chief Minister visited the spot on Sunday morning to assess the rescue operation and update herself on the situation from the officials. She said that if necessary, action will be taken and instructed to examine all other dilapidated and unsafe buildings.
4 Dead, Several Injured
11 injured persons were brought to AIIMS, where three were declared dead. Of the remaining patients, three have been discharged after treatment, while five continue to undergo medical care.
Safdarjung Hospital confirmed receiving one victim referred from Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital, who was brought dead. No other patients linked to the incident have been admitted there so far.
2 SDC Officials Suspended
Following the inspection drive conducted by CM Rekha Gupta, two MCD officials of the South zone, Assistant Engineer Sudesh Singh Chouhan and Junior Engineer Aman Jain, have been suspended in connection with this tragic accident.

CM Gupta ordered strict action against unauthorised constructions and asked the concerned officials if any official from the concerned departments is found guilty, then they will also be taken to task after an inquiry.
According to the local people, the bungalow was a two-storey construction done about 15 years back, on a 400 square yard plot. Other floors were built over a period of time, and the other building's fifth floor was still under construction, according to people present.
The bungalow houses a cafe, paying guest (PG) accommodation for women, a coaching institute and various other commercial activities. Karmaveer Jailer owns the property.
Locals Claim 70-80 People Were Nearby
Around 70 to 80 people, including a few foreign students, were present in and around the bungalow just before it came crashing down. Officials said one to two individuals might still be trapped under the debris.
Many occupants left because of a holiday, and others were in nearby cafes and restaurants.
A woman's cafe operating from a portable cabin next to the building had many occupants enjoying food when the building suddenly came crashing down at 7:30 pm. A ground-floor library, too, had many occupants reading. Rescue teams helped out many from the canteen and the surroundings.
All injured persons were admitted to AIIMS, where emergency treatment was provided to them. An inquiry into the reason for the collapse is in progress.
