A video of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge at the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament & Development ceremony sparked political debate after he was seen seated in the audience rather than on the dais. Senior Congress leader and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust chairperson Sonia Gandhi, however, was seated on the dais.

The footage quickly drew reactions, with the BJP highlighting it to question what it described as the internal dynamics of Congress leadership. Party leaders shared a stitched video on X, combining contrasting clips to emphasize the point.

One segment of the video captures Kharge approaching Sonia Gandhi with folded hands, slightly bowing in greeting. In contrast, the BJP included footage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bending to touch L K Advani’s feet before embracing him.

Titled “Sanskar Apne Apne,” the video sought to highlight what the party portrayed as contrasting treatment of senior leaders in the two parties.

While Congress has not provided a full explanation for why Kharge remained off the stage, the visuals were enough for the BJP to seize on the moment for political leverage.
