The return of Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of the Kapurthala district in Punjab who is currently stranded in Pakistan, has been stalled once again. The Pakistan Ministry of Interior has withheld the necessary special travel permit for her. Consequently, she has been transferred to the Darul Aman shelter home in Lahore under tight security.

Sarabjit was scheduled to be repatriated to India via the Attari-Wagah border, but permission was withheld at the last minute. The Home Department of the Punjab province has confirmed that Sarabjit will remain at Darul Aman until the required permit is issued. Officials state that the permit is likely to be issued next week.

Order To Shift Sarabjit Kaur To Lahore Shelter Home

Meanwhile, a medical examination of Sarabjit was conducted on January 9, 2026, which found her health to be satisfactory. Doctors reported that her condition is normal and she does not require any special treatment. According to Ali Changezi Sandhu, the lawyer representing the case, the entire matter regarding Sarabjit Kaur is still under legal process. Efforts are underway to complete formalities with the court and concerned departments so that she can be sent back to India soon.

Sarabjit Is A Resident Of Sultanpur Lodhi

Sarabjit Kaur had submitted her passport at Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi, from where it was sent for a pilgrim visa. She went to Pakistan on November 4 with a group (Jatha) of 1,932 pilgrims on the occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

When the group returned on November 13 after completing the ten-day tour, only 1,922 pilgrims arrived instead of 1,923. An investigation revealed that Sarabjit had stayed back in Pakistan, and her name was neither in Pakistan's exit records nor in India's entry records.

Later, her alleged marriage certificate written in Urdu and a video went viral, claiming that she had converted to Islam and married Noor Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura. In the video, Sarabjit had spoken about a love affair and divorce.
