Sarbjit Singh Killer: Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh's killer was shot dead in Pakistan's Lahore on Sunday. Amir Sarfaraz Tamba was accused of killing Singh, an Indian prisoner in Pakistan and was also a close associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit founder Hafiz Sayeed, reported PTI citing official sources. Tamba was attacked in the Islampura area of Lahore, Pakistan, by unidentified attackers on motorcycles. He was taken to a hospital with a critical condition and was declared dead after that.

The 49-year-old Sarabjit Singh took his last breath in the wee hours of May 2, 2013, in Lahore's Jinnah hospital. He was admitted to hospital after being comatose for nearly a week after he was brutally assaulted by inmates including Tamba, inside the high-security Kot Lakhpat jail.

Who Was Amir Sarfaraz Tamba?

Amir Sarfaraz Tamba was a close acquaintance of the founder of LeT and was born in Lahore in 1979. His father is Sarfaraz Javed. Sarabjit Singh had been allegedly found guilty of taking part in several bombings in Pakistan's Punjab province in 1990 and was given the death penalty.

In December 2018, the Lahore District and Sessions Court acquitted Tamba and co-accused Mudassar of all charges in the case of Sarabjit Singh in captivity, according to Samaa TV report. The court mentioned a lack of evidence as a reason for the acquittal of Tamba and Mudassar

Who Was Sarabjit Singh

Sarabjit Singh was a farmer from Bhikhiwind town in Punjab, who used to live near the India-Pakistan border, and who mistakenly crossed the border while he was drunk. However, he was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in 1991.
