SBI Reward Point Scam: The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an alert to its customers about a recent fraud scheme involving fake reward point redemptions. In a post shared on X, the bank stated that these scams are designed to trick users into downloading harmful apps and sharing their personal information.

The scam typically begins when fraudsters send SMS or WhatsApp messages promising attractive reward points. These messages often contain links that direct users to a fraudulent website or a malicious APK file. Once individuals enter their data on these platforms, it is immediately captured by the scammers. Payments made through these fraudulent channels also end up in the hands of the criminals.

To help customers recognise these scams, SBI provided examples of the deceptive messages being circulated. The bank reassured users that it never sends messages or APK files via SMS or WhatsApp for reward point redemptions.

SBI Bank Guidance

In response, SBI strongly advises its customers to avoid clicking on links or downloading files from unfamiliar messages, as doing so can jeopardise device security and lead to data breaches. Customers are encouraged to access their accounts only through official SBI channels and applications. They should also report any suspicious messages to their nearest branch or contact customer service.

In light of this scam, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also issued a warning. Both the government and cybersecurity experts recommend that all online banking users, not just SBI customers, take precautions to safeguard their sensitive information from such scams.
