The Supreme Court on Monday took note of the suicide incidents reported at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Sharda University. Raising doubts, the apex court said that something is "seriously wrong with the educational system" which force students to take such extreme steps. The top court also stated that contempt proceedings would be initiated if FIRs were not filed in time in both cases.
The Supreme Court has asked IIT-Kharagpur and Sharda University to submit their responses. The matter has been posted for hearing next Monday.
