Bihar SIR: The Supreme Court on Thursday observed that no voter has come forward to challenge deletions made during Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR). A bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, noted that deletions from the voter list were carried out correctly on grounds of death, migration, and duplication, despite earlier widespread concerns about mass exclusions in the state.
While hearing multiple petitions challenging the legality of the SIR, CJI Surya Kant said, “We experienced a strange thing in Bihar. We kept on directing, sent our paralegal volunteers…nobody came forward to say I have been excluded.”
BJP Targets Congress Over SIR
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's narrative ‘vote chori’ has faced a setback, News18 reported.
“Rahul Gandhi’s vote chori narrative got a setback from the Supreme Court today. The top court said apprehensions were created that names of over a crore voters would be deleted, but no one came forward to challenge it. Rahul Gandhi’s own allies like SP, TMC don’t believe in vote chori,” the BJP spokesperson said.

Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls reduced the state’s electorate to 7.42 crore. On June 24, the voter count was 7.89 crore, and 65 lakh names were removed during the revision. The draft roll released on August 1 showed 7.24 crore voters. The exercise led to the removal of 3.66 lakh ineligible electors and added 21.53 lakh eligible voters through Form 6 submissions. The final roll was published on September 30.
Following Bihar SIR, the Election Commission will conduct the exercise in 12 states and Union territories, including Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.
