SC On Stray Dogs: A video circulating online shows dog lovers and lawyers fighting outside the Supreme Court over an order to relocate stray dogs from residential areas to shelter homes. A lawyer can be seen pulling and thrashing an individual in the footage. The lawyer, apparently enraged, punches the man twice before others enter and attempt to mediate.

The footage of the fight, which has since gone viral, is reported to be from August 11, the day the Supreme Court issued its order.

The footage shows individuals yelling and insulting the lawyers.

Supreme Court's Order On Stray Dogs

On Monday, the Supreme Court directed civic authorities in the Delhi NCR region, which includes Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, to create dog shelters, relocate stray dogs, and keep the court informed. The court ruled that these shelters must have professionals who can handle dogs, perform sterilisation and immunisation, and have CCTV cameras to ensure that canines do not escape.

"We are not doing this for us; it is for the public interest. So, no sentiments of any nature should be involved. "Action should be taken at the earliest," Justice Pardiwala said. "Pick up dogs from all localities and shift them to shelters. For the time being, forget the rules," he told amicus curiae Gaurav Agarwala, who suggested the steps that can be taken to address the stray dog menace.

Maneka Gandhi, an animal rights activist and former Union minister, sharply attacked the decision, calling it "impractical," "financially unviable," and "potentially harmful" to the region's natural balance.
