Major Rohit Bachwala, posted at Jhansi Military Hospital, was on his way to Hyderabad via Bengaluru for a month-long leave when he encountered a medical emergency at the railway station. While waiting for his train, he noticed a pregnant woman in intense labor on the footover bridge. Acting swiftly, he used a pocket knife, hair clips, and a dhoti as improvised tools to assist in the delivery. Railway women staff helped secure the area for privacy and provided gloves for the procedure.
The woman, traveling with her husband and child from Panvel to Barabanki on the Panvel-Gorakhpur Express, had been deboarded at Jhansi after her husband sent an SOS to railway authorities. Major Rohit, a native of Hyderabad and the son of a former Indian Air Force personnel, happened to be at the station and stepped in without hesitation, upholding the highest values of military service.
