The Shahberi route, a connection road between Greater Noida West and Crossing Republik in Ghaziabad, has finally reopened for traffic after two months of construction. The road, which was closed for widening work starting March 25, became operational on Friday.
The road has been widened by three metres—1.5 metres on each side—allowing smoother traffic flow. Besides, a new drainage system has been constructed alongside the road at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore.

"Thousands of vehicles pass through the Shahberi market area daily. Due to the road's narrow width, traffic congestion became routine. The widening was essential to address this," said Greater Noida Authority CEO NG Ravi Kumar, as quoted by TOI.
The project was initially expected to be completed in just 20 days. However, due to unforeseen delays, the work stretched over two months.
Earlier, the Shahberi Road, starting from the Eteda Roundabout in Greater Noida, was only about 3 metres wide. With a single lane, it frequently experienced severe traffic jams. The situation was expected to worsen further with the opening of Noida Airport.
Authorities have also issued a warning to local shopkeepers against encroachment, adding that strict action will be taken against any violations. With the ongoing construction of the underpass at Gaur Chowk, traffic will now be diverted through the newly widened Shahberi-Crossing Republik road.
The Greater Noida Authority is also developing a 720-metre-long, six-lane underpass on Taj Highway. Once completed, it will significantly ease traffic congestion between Greater Noida and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The underpass is expected to be completed within 18 months.
