Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has again raked up controversy with a series of inflammatory statements. And this time, he's accusing the United States of using the world for wars for financial gain, also indirectly pointing a finger at India in the backdrop of rising tensions in the region. The remarks come weeks after Asif had confessed Pakistan's involvement in performing "dirty work" for Western nations by backing terror outfits in previous wars. The justification has not only drawn criticism domestically in Pakistan but has also triggered sharp reactions from India.

"America Makes Others Fight Wars, Then Goes Home", Says Asif

In a new video sparking outrage on social media, Asif is heard blaming the US again for creating wars across the globe. In an interview with The Current, when Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif was asked about the dirty game, he replied, “I can do a full programme with you on this topic. I have been talking about international locations for the past 12-13 years. I have spoken at the Asia Society, USIP, Washington, and New York. There is also a book named Ghost War by Steve Cole. So... I also said that US left us to face after battling two Afghan wars. And it was a mistake on our part that we participated in it. I maintain this stance even today, the terrorism that exists in our country today and the extremist ideology that exists in our brains today is only because we participated in those wars!"

Again, when he asked whether Pakistan was prepared for another war, he said, “We should always be prepared for a war. We have an enemy and cannot be trusted. Americans have been doing this for the last 100 years; they generate wars. The US has fought 260 wars so far, and China has fought 3. They still make money from that. The military industry complex is there; it's an established industry. They have to fight wars for it."

"Even sometimes they make others fight, make money out of that war, and go home. America’s policies have devastated once-prosperous nations like Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya," he added.

Earlier, Asif was interviewed by Sky News regarding Pakistan's terrorism connections. In turn, he confessed and said, "Yes, we did the dirty work for the West. We supported, trained, and funded groups in the Afghan war. It was a mistake. We're paying the price to this day."\

Terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 26 people, mostly tourists, in the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. The remarks are made during a period in which Pakistan's defence readiness comes under increased international scrutiny, when tensions along India-Pakistan frontiers continue at a high point. Earlier, the local Pakistani media had fact-checked some of Asif's assertions about India, revealing a number of inaccuracies. Nevertheless, the minister has made controversial claims, shifting his tale towards American foreign policy.
