Shibu Soren Death: Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and one of the founding members of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), passed away at a Delhi hospital on Monday. Soren was 81 years old and was suffering from kidney related diseases for a long time. Jharkhand current chief minister and Soren's son Hemant Soren confirmed his death by remembering his as "Dishom Guru" of Jharkhand. Several prominent politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their grief by remembering Soren as a voice of margianalised and tribal groups.
Shibu Soren, along with other revolutionaries had played a significant role in formation of Jharkhand in 1999. Soren served as the chief minister of the state for three times and was also elected as the member of parliament for eight times in his political career of nearly four decades. While Shibu Soren has left for heavenly abode, his other family members still remain relevant and are shaping the state politics.
Soren and Roopi Soren (his wife) had three children- Hemant, Durga (deceased), Basant, and Anjali Soren who all got active in politics and social services in the later phases of their lives. While Hemant Soren is the current Chief Minister and JMM party chief, Durga Soren was also a public representative and was a key figure in the state politics. Basant Soren is serving as the MLA and is also active in the party decision making.
Soren's daughter, Anjali has been active in Odisha politics, often raising the tribals rights there. Apart from this, his daughter-in-law Sita Soren (Durga's wife) joined BJP last year; however, she lost the election in the state assembly polls. Shibu Soren's family members are active in the state politics with Hemant Soren leading the pack. Hemant Soren is also a key member of the INDIA-bloc and actively speaks for the tribal rights.
