Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra were recently denied permission to travel abroad by the Bombay High Court. The couple had to visit Thailand's Phuket for a three-day family vacation, however the court rejected the request citing serious pending cases against them.
The Bombay High Court also refused to pause the lookout circular issued by Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW), as per an NDTV report.
The couple is facing serious allegations in connection with a Rs 60 crore fraud investigation. Businessman Deepak Kothari alleged that Shilpa and Raj had convinced him to invest Rs 60 crore in their now-defunct company. He claimed that the couple used the money for personal expenses instead
A bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad that Kundra was told by Raj and Shilpa’s e counsel that the couple had always cooperated with probe agencies. However, the government's counsel was not in favour of providing them any relief.
The next hearing in the case will happen after two weeks.
Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing had earlier booked Shetty, Kundra, and another accused under IPC sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention).
In addition to the fraud case, Raj Kundra is also under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged cryptocurrency dealings. According to the ED’s chargesheet, Kundra is the beneficial owner of 285 Bitcoins valued at more than Rs 150 crore. These Bitcoins were allegedly received from the late crypto scam mastermind Amit Bhardwaj.
