The murder of Shradhha Walker, allegedly by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in May last year mustered the entire nation to rally behind the accused’s kin when the incident came to light in November, calling out the security forces to fast-track the investigation process and bring the accused to justice over the heinous crime, where he disposed the body of the 27-year-old woman at different locations in Mumbai by cutting it into pieces.
A year has passed since the incident and the victim’s family stated that they have not received updates from the police or the court for months now, reported Indian Express. Vikas lodged a missing complaint report in October 2022 when he couldn’t reach his daughter on the phone.
Police stated that the accused, Poonawala chopped her live-in partner's body with a saw and knives into 20 pieces and tried to dispose of them at different locations over the next few days of committing the crime.
Walker’s father, Vikas said he had a “sweet and ambitious daughter who was killed by an abusive man”. He said his family is yet to perform the last rites of the victim and they tried a lot to get her remains but police have provided them with nothing so far. He said, “It looks like the case has gone cold,” alleging that he has not received a call from the police and courts about any development in the case, the report said.
A senior police official said the investigation of the case has been completed and they have filed the chargesheet. The official said that now the court is recording the statements and they have all the necessary evidence to present before the court, the report said.
