Sikkim Rains: Massive landslides brought on by constant rain in Sikkim's Mangan district left at least one person dead and five more missing, officials said on Thursday. According to them, power lines were washed away, roads were obstructed by landslides, and numerous homes were destroyed or submerged.

A person's body was discovered in the Mangan Pakshep area, while three people from Ambithang near Rangrang and two more from Pakshep went missing.

The IMD here in Gangtok forecasts that Sikkim's intense downpour will likely last until June 16. IMD informed, "Due to presence of a cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level and an east-west oriented upper air trough from this cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh to Nagaland across Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and south Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, light to moderate rainfall activities with a few intense spells of heavy falls very likely to affect the districts of Sikkim from June 12 to 16".

Officials reported that numerous houses in Nampathang, close to Pentok, had been damaged and that three houses in Geythang had been destroyed.

A landslide at Bringbong forced the relocation of the Bringbong police outpost, and damage was done to the bridge's foundation at Sankalan.

Mobile network services were disrupted in North Sikkim despite the district administration's plea to send an SDRF team with rations to Mangan, officials said.

To address the situation, Mangan District Magistrate Hem Kumar Chettri called an urgent conference with all of the department heads. To remove the debris off the road in the vicinity of Mangshila Degree College, an earthmover was sent out.
