Bengaluru News: A case of physical assault on an 11-year-old girl at a madrasa in Hegde Nagar has been reported, with police confirming the incident on Thursday. The assault occurred on February 16 and was captured by CCTV cameras installed within the madrasa.
According to a complaint filed by the girl's mother on February 21, the child had been enrolled in the 5th standard at the madrasa and its hostel since July 2024. The accused, Mohammad Hasan, is the son of the hostel in-charge and often visited the premises.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the alleged incident took place around 4:30 PM when the girl was called to the madrasa office. There, Hasan reportedly slapped, kicked and physically abused her as punishment for spilling rice and having a disagreement with other hostelmates during playtime.
Following the complaint, the Kothanur police have registered a case against Hasan under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which deals with cruelty to children and Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt. The accused has been arrested, according to a senior police official.
In separate news, a man was dragged for about 50 metres by an SUV at a toll booth on Bengaluru’s Nelamangala Highway following an argument. The incident, which occurred yesterday, was captured on CCTV.
The video showed the toll barrier lifting after payment, but the SUV remained stationary for nearly 15 seconds. Officials stated that a dispute over overtaking led to a physical altercation. As the driver sped off, the man clung to the car’s door before falling onto the road. Though he escaped serious injuries, police are investigating to trace the accused driver.
