Monsoon 2025 is expected to arrive over Kerala during the next four to five days, ahead of the usual schedule of June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday. According to IMD data, if the monsoon arrives in Kerala before time, it will be the earliest onset over the Indian mainland since 2009, when it began on May 23. Earlier, IMD had forecast the onset by May 27.
“Conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area, some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, some more parts South and Central Bay of Bengal, Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during the same period,” the IMD said.

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph with heavy rainfall very likely over Kerala and Mahe, Karnataka during next 7 days with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Coastal Karnataka during May 22, 25 and 26; North Interior Karnataka on May 20 and 21; South Interior Karnataka on May 25 and 26 and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Kerala on May 20 and Coastal and Ghat areas of Karnataka on May 20 and 21.
Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana during next 7 days with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema on May 20 with heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on May 21 and 22 and Rayalaseema on May 21.
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada during May 20 -24 and isolated to scattered rainfall over Gujarat Region during May 20-24; Saurashtra & Kutch during May 22-24 with Thundersquall wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph likely over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra during May 20-22 and over Marathawada on May 20 and 21.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over south Madhya Maharashtra during May 21-23 Konkan and Goa during May 20-24 and isolated heavy rainfall over Konkan and Goa on May 25 and 26; south Madhya Maharashtra during May 20 -24; Marathawada on May 21 and 22; Saurashtra and Kutch on May 23 and 24; Gujarat Region during May 22-24.
