In a shocking incident, an accidental blast at Nowgam police station on the outskirts of Srinagar claimed nine lives and injured 32 others. The injured include 27 cops, two revenue officials and three civilians.

The loud explosion took place after the authorities were extracting samples from a large cache of explosives recently seized in connection with the Faridabad 'white-collar' terror module case, officials said on Saturday.

The officials said that the blast took place late Friday night and killed nine people, while 32 were injured, most of them being policemen and forensic officials.

The explosion occurred when the police and FSL personnel were handling the explosive material that had been brought from Haryana's Faridabad.s

The ammonium nitrate, part of the 360 kilograms of explosives recovered from the rented residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie, was being sampled as part of the ongoing investigation, the officials said.

The officials added that six bodies have been retrieved from the scene, adding that the deceased are yet to be identified.

The bodies have been taken to Srinagar's Police Control Room. Talking about the injured, the officials said that at least 24 police personnel and three civilians were admitted to various hospitals in the city.

The massive blast smashed the quiet of the night and damaged the police station building.

The major blast was followed by small successive explosions that prevented immediate rescue operations by the bomb disposal squad.

Early morning, J&K DGP and CRPF IG Pawan Kumar Sharma visited the explosion site. The security has also been beefed up around the area.

The conspiracy was first unravelled with the seizure of ammonium nitrate in Faridabad's Al-Falah University. The terror module was also linked to a car blast near the Red Fort on November 10 that killed 13 people.
