A day after former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that her car was attacked with stones while she was on her way to meet the family of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker in North 24 Parganas who died in West Bengal Police custody, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday alleged that the incident was a "state-sponsored attack".
He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of backing it. He further alleged that Suvendu Adhikari "executed" the attack.
The TMC leader said Mamata Banerjee is not merely the chairperson of the party, but also a veteran leader who has served as Chief Minister and held several key portfolios during her long political career.

"It was a state-sponsored attack. Mamata Banerjee is not just the chairperson of TMC; she is also the former CM and has held several other portfolios in her long-term political career...the attackers have been spotted with BJP leaders in multiple instances. They do not want any opposition to exist; they want to kill opposition leaders...the so-called current opposition party is merely the B-team of the BJP. They have destroyed Bengal. They have not delivered on any promise that they had made before the election...the Prime Minister and the Home Minister had full backing and support behind the incident; CM Suvendu Adhikari just executed it", the MP said.
CM Mamata Banerjee said, "Large stones were hurled at my car by anti-social elements, right in front of the police. The attack on the vehicle was so severe that if the windows had been open, my head would have been split open. We could have all been killed. This happened right in front of the police. I have never seen anything like this. What is going on?... the police are providing protection to the BJP."
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy also strongly condemned the alleged attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's convoy, accusing BJP workers of being behind the incident.
Roy said, "I have no words strong enough to condemn this. A Trinamool worker died in police custody. He was on his way home; there was no public outcry. This is the wrath of BJP goons. We vehemently oppose and condemn this."
The TMC leader alleged that the incident reflected political violence and targeted workers of the ruling party. He demanded accountability for the alleged attack and condemned what he described as attempts to create fear among opposition leaders.
Meanwhile, the BJP has denied any role in the incident. BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya denied any connection between the BJP and the incident. He said, "Let me be clear: the BJP has absolutely no connection to the incidents where mud, stones, or slippers were thrown at Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle; the Trinamool should not try to lecture us on this. What is happening here is a conflict involving the Trinamool--a clash between the public and the Trinamool. Regardless of whether it involves a chief minister or any other female leader, the BJP does not endorse the throwing of stones at anyone's vehicle; we condemn such incidents. If such things occur, the police are there to take appropriate action. However, the Trinamool ought to reflect on the atrocities that the public has never forgotten..."
