The Delhi Police has arrested three teenagers for allegedly strangling a man to death, gouging his eyes out, and burying the body near the Yamuna riverbank, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

According to the information, the matter surfaced after a police official came across the three teenagers and investigated a bike theft case. As suspicion grew, the police official investigated the minors and found two mobile phones in their possession. Upon being pressured, the teenagers confessed to killing a man.

On their indication, the police recovered the remains of the body near the Yamuna bank. The police have identified the deceased as 18-year-old Sonu Kumar. Sonu belonged to Bihar's Aurangabad. He came to Delhi in March-April to find a job.

While the exact date and time of the murder could not be determined, the family has claimed that the deceased was missing for three months. The family said that they were unable to make contact with the deceased after April.

What raised suspicion?

On Wednesday, the police spotted he three accused riding a bike without a registration number in the Alipur area. Upon seeing the patrolling team, they tried to flee, raising suspicion with the police.

Within seconds, they were overpowered and caught. The police found out that the bike was stolen on July 11. The police found a phone and, upon enquiring about it, all three gave different versions.

The police promptly checked the call detail records (CDR) and found out that the device had not been used since April. The Indian Express quoted DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami saying, "They admitted that they had snatched the mobile phone from an unknown person near the Yamuna riverbank in April."

After sensing something was wrong, the police further investigated them, and they confessed that they snatched the phone from Sonu, and when he resisted, they strangled him into an unconscious state.

"They gouged his eyes out to make sure he wouldn’t be able to recognise them once he regained consciousness," an officer said. Sonu, however, died of the cruelty. They got panicked and dipped Sonu's body in the Yamuna so that his "soul could rest". Later, they dug a shallow pit and buried his body.
