Two policemen on bandobast duty were injured in a Maoist attack at a market in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, this morning. The Maoists reportedly attacked the officers with knives, leaving one of them in serious condition, according to an official cited by The Indian Express. The two injured policemen were part of a group of around 20 officers assigned to bandobast duty at the time of the incident.
According to the media outlet, citing an official, the two personnel were walking some distance apart when they were targeted by a small group of 4-5 Maoists. After the duo fell from the attack, the assailants looted their weapons and fled the scene.

The official reported that one officer is out of danger, while the other, who sustained a major neck injury, is in serious condition. He has been moved to a hospital in Dantewada and will be further transferred to Raipur for further treatment.
No arrest has been made of far in the incident.
The incident came days after a CAF jawan was killed by Maoists in Chhattisghar’s Bijapur district in February this year. In June, a constable was killed at a fun fair in Sukma district.
Security forces have launched a massive operation against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh, with reports indicating that as many as 185 militants have been eliminated so far in 2024. Over 31 Naxalites were killed in a fierce encounter in the Bastar region in October, marking the highest number of Maoist fatalities in a single action since the state's formation 24 years ago.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah previously stated that India aims to be free from Left-Wing Extremism by March 2026.
