Nepal Gen Z Protest: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reportedly emphasised the importance of Indian constitution by citing example of political unrest in the neighbouring nations, Nepal and Bangladesh. The remarks from the top court came amid an ongoing Gen Z protest in Nepal which forced the Prime Minister KP Oli to resign. Apart from this, the court also mentioned the student protest in Bangladesh that toppled the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh. A massive protest erupted in Nepal after the government banned 26 social media sites, leading to strong reactions from the youngsters. The opposition parties, social activists, and protesters also pointed out the alleged corruption by the ministers.

“We are proud of our Constitution, look at neighbouring nations," Chief Justice of India BR Gavai was quoted as saying by Bar and Bench. CJI Gavai pointed out the ongoing Gen Z protest in Nepal and also mentioned the students protest in Bangladesh. The remarks from the CJI came while the bench was hearing a presidential reference to the court's order, which set deadlines for the president and governors to clear bills passed by legislators.

While Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta stated that almost 90 per cent of the bills were passed by the governors within a month. However, the CJI did not agree to consider the statistics by stating that it would be unfair for the states arguing against the presidential reference.

"We cannot take statistics... it will not be fair to them (the state arguing against the presidential reference). We did not take their statistics. How can we take yours?" he asked, "We will not go into it... earlier you objected to their statistics," CJI Gavai stated.
