Nepal Gen Z Protests: Amid the ongoing violent protests in Nepal against corruption and the social media ban led by Gen Zs, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday instructed the police officials to heighten security measures across all seven border districts with the Himalayan region.
This move comes after the Nepal Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, resigned amid escalating protests, driven by massive youth-led demonstrations against corruption and a controversial social media ban.
Helplines, Extra Patrols And Other Security Measures Along Indo-Nepal Border
- Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna has ordered round-the-clock surveillance, intensified patrolling, and the deployment of additional police personnel in the border districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj, Hindustan Times reported.

- A special control room has been set up at the Police Headquarters in Lucknow to support Indian nationals stranded in Nepal.
- Three 24/7 helpline numbers have been activated, including a WhatsApp number: 0522-2390257, 0522-2724010, and 9454401674 (also available on WhatsApp).
- Additional Director General (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash said, “The UP Police is fully committed to maintaining law and order in the state and providing all possible assistance to Indian citizens stranded in Nepal.”
- Though the Indo-Nepal border has not been sealed, security has been significantly tightened. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), responsible for guarding the open border, has ramped up patrolling to prevent the infiltration of anti-social elements.
- Commissioner of Devipatan Division, Shashi Lal Bhushan Sushil, has directed the district magistrates to work in close coordination with police and SSB officials to ensure effective monitoring of the border districts.
Nepal Gen Z Protests
The heightened alert comes in the wake of massive violent protests in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu and several other cities, where Gen Z protestors stormed and set fire to the Parliament building, the President’s office at Shital Niwas, and the residences of several senior leaders. At least 19 people were killed, and over 500 were injured in the violent protest driven by youth-led demonstrations against corruption and a controversial social media ban.
In response to the escalating violence, curfews have been imposed in several cities, including Kathmandu and Dang. Several airlines, including Air India, Spice Jet and IndiGo, cancelled flights to and from Kathmandu after protesters attempted to storm Tribhuvan International Airport.
