The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into the voters list manipulation allegations by the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The apex court told the petitioner to pursue the issue before the Election Commission for a clarification. Earlier in August, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha had accused the poll body of voters list manipulation in the Bengaluru Central constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, the Election Commission, labeled the allegations as "baseless", further asking the Congress leader either to apologise or register the complains under the oath.

While the court asked the petitioner to take the matter to the poll body, the petitioner's counsel stated that the EC did not take any action even after submission of the representation. However, the bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi refused to entertain the matter by declining to pass any direction to the poll body.

"We have heard the petitioner's counsel. We are not inclined to entertain the petition, which is purportedly filed in public interest. The petitioner may pursue before ECI, if so advised," the bench stated in its order, reported Live Law. Earlier in September, Rahul Gandhi reiterated that the poll body has helped the BJP to win the recent polls, further suggesting the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to do his job properly.

"Wake up at 4 a.m. Eliminate two voters in 36 seconds, Then go back to sleep - this is how vote theft happens!" "Chunaav ka chawkidaar jaagta raha, chori dekhta raha, choron ko bachata raha [The election watchman stayed awake, watched the theft, and protected the thieves]," Gandhi had stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). However, the Election Commission stated that the opposition leader was trying to mislead the people by presenting wrong information.
