Indian Navy is set to induct two warships and a diesel-electric powered submarine, all equipped with domestically produced advanced weapons, into its fleet soon, PTI reported. The move will significantly enhance the Navy's strike and combat capabilities.

Officials, cited by the news agency, informed on Wednesday that the two warships– Surat and Nilgiri– along with the submarine 'Vagsheer,' will be inducted into the Navy during a ceremony in Mumbai on January 15. These vessels are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors.

Adequate arrangements have also been made for the accommodation of female officers and sailors aboard both warships. According to a statement, the induction of these warships into the Navy will not only boost its combat capabilities but also strengthen the country's self-reliance in indigenous shipbuilding. Both warships and the submarine have been built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.

The designs for both warships were prepared by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau. Nilgiri and Surat, equipped with advanced aviation facilities, will deploy a range of helicopters, including the lightweight Chetak, Sea King and the recently inducted MH-60R helicopters.

Vagsheer, named after a predatory fish found in the Indian Ocean, is the sixth submarine of the Scorpene class, which operates on both diesel and electric power. It is one of the most lethal submarines in the world.
