Delhi Police arrested three men who allegedly used an online dating app to lure and rob people, following a brief exchange of gunfire in northeast Delhi’s Yamuna Khadar area early Sunday, officials said. Two of the accused suffered gunshot wounds to their legs during the encounter and are currently receiving treatment at JPC Hospital

The accused, Sameer (21) and Tarun (23), both residents of Shahdara, and Kunal Sharma (23) from Pandav Nagar, Meerut, opened fire on the police team using illegal firearms.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2:25 am when a patrolling team received a tip-off about the presence of individuals suspected to be involved in recent robberies. The suspects were reportedly planning another criminal act near New Usmannagar.

A police team reached the location and spotted three men behaving suspiciously. When officers attempted to stop them for questioning, the suspects tried to escape into a nearby jungle and opened fire on the police, an officer said. In response, police returned fire and managed to apprehend the trio.

"The police team responded with controlled retaliatory fire in self-defence, and two of the suspects were shot in the legs. Despite the resistance, the team managed to overpower all three and apprehended them on the spot," he said.

Two country-made pistols and three live cartridges were recovered from the accused, police added. A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Sameer, has a criminal history and is previously involved in two cases, one of robbery and another of causing hurt, registered at Mansarovar Park police station. Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams were called in to examine the scene. Authorities are working to verify the accused's statements and investigate their possible connection to other unsolved cases. Further investigation is underway.
