Tamil movie actor Sriram Krishnamachari, also known as Srikanth, was on Monday arrested for allegedly buying cocaine from a drug cartel. The cartel includes a Ghanaian national who was recently arrested. Sriram was allegedly in regular contact with three drug offenders, who had recently been arrested.

The action against the Tamil actor was taken by the Greater Chennai Police.

“Our investigation revealed that he procured and consumed cocaine. Further investigation is underway,” The Hindu quoted a senior official as saying.

As per News 18, Sriram was arrested after his questioning at the Nungambakkam police station. His name allegedly came up when police interrogated Prasad, an expelled AIADMK IT Wing member. He was taken into custody after a scuffle at a bar. During questioning, Prasad admitted that he supplied drugs to Sriram. He said Sriram even consumed drugs at several parties and clubs in Chennai. His blood samples were sent for medical examination, which confirmed the presence of drugs.

He has been sent to judicial custody till July 7 by a Chennai court.

Police have also launched a manhunt for another actor, Krishna, based on Prasad’s admissions.

Srikanth stepped into the world of cinema with his debut in the 2002 Tamil film Roja Kootam. Over the years, he has featured in several well-received films such as April Maadhathil (2002), Parthiban Kanavu (2003), Okariki Okaru (2003), and Nanban (2012), the Tamil adaptation of 3 Idiots. His performances have earned him various accolades, including the Nandi Awards and Filmfare Awards.
