Tamil Nadu assembly unanimously passed a resolution against the NEET exam, urging the union government to abolish the nationwide exam and replace it with the old admission procedure of granting medical colleges admission based on the score of class 12. The state legislature's resolution came amid the outrage over the NEET UG paper leak and the abrupt postponement of the NEET-PG 2024. While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin tabled the resolution, several regional parties, including MDMK, MMK, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), supported it.
The BJP members walked out as the CM demanded the scrapping of the NEET, while AIADMK members remained suspended from the house. On Wednesday, all the MLAs of AIADMK were ousted from the House for the rest of the assembly session.
The resolution demanded that Tamil Nadu should be allowed to take medical college admissions based on the marks of students in class 12 examinations. It further requested the centre to make changes to the National Medical Commission Act to abolish the NEET.
Earlier, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimojhi had reiterated the party's long-time demand to exempt Tamil Nadu from the system of NEET.
"Tamil Nadu has been consistently saying that we do not want NEET. Now it is proved that NEET is not a fair examination, and students are losing so much because of NEET," she said as quoted by ANI.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin alleged that the NEET exam makes medical education inaccessible to rural and poor students. The DMK leader further said that his party has been demanding the abolition of NEET since it came into existence in 2017.
Widespread protests erupted after National Testing Agency (NTA announced the result of NEET-UG 2024 on June 4. A total of 67 students topped the exam while more than 1500 were awarded grace marks by the NTA, which sparked a huge uproar among the students, parents, teachers and political parties across the country.
