Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur districts and the Karaikal area, along with a yellow alert for heavy rain in Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Chennai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Villuppuram districts and Puducherry on Sunday.
The weather activity is being driven by a low-pressure system forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Sri Lankan coast, which is expected to bring rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update
On November 17, an orange alert has been issued, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villuppuram, Puducherry, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts. A yellow alert is in effect for Tiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, and the Karaikal area, where heavy rain is expected at isolated locations.
On November 18, a yellow alert has been issued, with heavy rain likely at isolated places across Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.
On November 19, a yellow alert is in place, with heavy rain expected at isolated locations in the Nilgiris district and the ghat areas of Coimbatore.
Chennai Weather Forecast
On November 16, the temperature is expected to range between 31 and 26 Degree Celsius. The forecast predicts a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
On November 17, the temperature will range between 30 and 25 Degree Celsius. The forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain and intense rainfall throughout the day.
On November 18, the temperature is expected to range between 30 and 24 Degree Celsius. The forecast predicts a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain and intense rainfall.
On 19 November, temperatures are expected to stay between 31 and 25 Degree Celsius. The day will see a generally cloudy sky accompanied by moderate rainfall.
On November 20 the temperature will range between 31 and 25 Degree Celsius. The forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain.
On 21 and 22 November, the temperature will remain around 31 to 25 Degree Celsius, with a forecast of a generally cloudy sky. Both days are expected to see moderate rain.
The weather department has stated that rainfall is likely to continue over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until Monday, November 17, 2025. The IMD has advised citizens to stay alert, particularly in areas expecting thunderstorms, as lightning poses a significant safety risk. Farmers have also been urged to plan their agricultural activities carefully, considering the anticipated rainfall in several locations.
