Vijay Oath Taking Ceremony: The suspense over the oath of actor-turned-politician Vijay for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister post ended four days after his over two-year-old party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), created history by emerging as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026, on Saturday. In his fourth meeting with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Vijay finally received the appointment of chief minister. The Governor appointed him as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A dream of Vijay's crores of fans came true. The swearing-in of the Vijay-led ministry will be held on Sunday at 10 am at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
'Very Happy': Father Of Vijay As Son Set To Take Oath As CM
Veteran Tamil filmmaker SA Chandrashekhar, the father of Vijay, expressed happiness after his son secured the backing of 120 MLAs to stake a claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Chandrashekhar reacted emotionally to the fast-moving political developments in the state, saying he was very happy.
VCK, IUML Bring Breakthrough
As the Governor was adamant over the tally - 118 majority mark - VCK with two seats first announced its unconditional support to the TVK. Moments after, the IUML also joined the league. Taking into account the support from the VCK and IUML, the TVK's seat tally has now touched 120 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

On Saturday evening, the TVK chief met the Governor along with Congress top leader K Selvaperunthagai and leaders of supporting parties, including the CPI(M) State Secretary P Shanmugam.
VCK's Support Emerges As A Game-Changer
The TVK, with the support of Congress and Left parties, had managed 116 seats and was falling short of just two seats. The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) kept them waiting for days. Hours before the deadline for the President's rule, the VCK ended the suspense and declared its support. TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna hailed the support extended by VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and two VCK MLAs towards his party.
Sharing a post on X, Arjuna added that the 'Silent Revolution' that took place through democratic means in the state would extend support to the greatest transfer of power that is about to occur under VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan.
IUML's Support Strengthens Alliance
The IUML, an ally of DMK, also extended unconditional support to TVK to form a government in the state. The letter to the Governor, written by IUML leaders SSB Syed Farooq Basha and AM Shahjahan, conveyed the party's "unconditional support" to the TVK. The letter said the support is being conveyed "in the interest of stable, secular and democratic governance" for the people of Tamil Nadu. IUML president KM Kader Mohideen emphasised that all parties should extend support "only for government formation" in Tamil Nadu and to preserve the state's "democratic traditions".
Mohideen clarified that extending support to form the government is a need and necessity for the time being because Tamil Nadu needs the formation of a government. "Otherwise, it may lead to President's rule, confusion and trouble in the state. Therefore, to preserve the democratic traditions of Tamil Nadu, it is the duty of every political party to extend support for the formation of the government," he said.
Rahul Gandhi To Attend Vijay's Swearing-In
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is likely to attend the swearing-in of new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Sources said Gandhi will attend the oath-taking ceremony, in which some other opposition leaders are also expected to be present.
