Fourteen students were arrested for assaulting a senior at a government school in Tamil Nadu's Kumbakonam. Police on Saturday said a Class XII student of a government school at Patteeswaram near Kumbakonam has been seriously injured in an attack by a group of his juniors.
The victim has allegedly been attacked by a group of Class XI students, officials said. According to police, the incident took place at the Government Arignar Anna Model Higher Secondary School, where Class XI and Class XII students frequently quarrel.
A clash broke out between rival groups at Therodum Keezhaveethi in Patteeswaram on Friday, leaving a student seriously injured.
Police officials said in the melee, more than 14 Class XI students allegedly assaulted a Class XII student and hit him on the head with a wooden rod, prompting cops to take action.
On being informed about the clash the injured student's parents rushed to the school, rescued him and took him to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital.

After first aid, he was referred to a private hospital in Thanjavur for further treatment, he added. Patteeswaram Police have lodged the 14 students in a juvenile home and are questioning them further.
Andhra Police Question Students Who Visited Maoist Encounter Site
In another development, nearly eight students from prominent institutions, including Osmania University and the University of Hyderabad, were questioned by the police after they visited a Maoist encounter site in Alluri Sitaramaraju district. An official on Saturday said all students were later allowed to leave.
Under 'Operation Sambhav', police gunned down 13 Maoists over two days, six on November 18 and seven on November 19 in Maredumilli mandal of Alluri Sitaramaraju district.
"Students were not detained. They were examined to prevent any further law-and-order issues," Alluri Sitaramaraju district superintendent of police (SP) Amit Bardar said.
