Tamil Nadu News: Police in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife and concealing her body in a drum buried near a burial ground. The accused, identified as Silambarasan, reportedly admitted to the crime during questioning, officers confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivekananda Shukla, Silambarasan confessed that he strangled his wife, Priya, on August 14. He then transported her body about three kilometres from their home and buried it inside a drum near a burial site. Acting on the information provided, the police recovered the remains.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused suspected his 26-year-old wife of having multiple affairs, which frequently led to quarrels between the couple. “We have established the prima facie motive, the husband was suspicious of his wife’s alleged extra-marital relationships,” SP Shukla told reporters.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the case came to light after Priya’s father, Srinivasan, filed a missing complaint with Arambakkam Police. He grew suspicious when he was unable to reach his daughter for several days. Before she went missing, Priya had visited her parents’ home in Pudupalayam near Arani, expressing her desire to separate from her husband. However, her family persuaded her to return to him.

Srinivasan later learned from Priya’s two sons that they had not seen their mother for nearly two months. Alarmed, he immediately approached the police. During interrogation, officers noticed inconsistencies in Silambarasan’s statements, prompting them to investigate further. Eventually, he confessed to the murder, SP Shukla said.

A case of murder has been registered and Silambarasan has been remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police said further action would be based on the forensic report. Investigations are ongoing to rule out any additional angles.
