Tamil Nadu Rains, Cyclone Fengal:  Authorities are preparing for the potential impacts of Cyclone Fengal, which is expected to affect the coastal areas of Chennai today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rain in three districts of Tamil Nadu and one district of Puducherry, as the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.

Earlier, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, including Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengelpet, and Cuddalore.

- Schools have been shut in Chennai, Chengelpet, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai after an alert for heavy rain was issued

- IndiGo Airlines has issued a travel advisory regarding disruptions to flights to and from Chennai, Tuticorin and Madurai, which continue to be impacted due to adverse weather conditions

- Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai to review precautionary measures and directed the deployment of NDRF and state teams in areas likely to experience heavy rainfall

- As many as 17 teams have been deployed across districts including Chennai, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Thanjavur to deal with the aftermath of the cyclone

- Greater Chennai Police has also issued to advisory for the people to stay vigil and dial emergency services whenever required

-  The state government has prepared over 1,634 relief centres, though none have been used so far. Equipment like generators, motor pumps, boats and other machinery are on standby
