Tamil Nadu Stampede: A video from Karur shows the moments before the panic at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally, where a deadly stampede left more than 36 people dead. The visuals capture Vijay standing on a campaign vehicle, waving to the massive crowd, before the chaos erupted.

The other clips shows people collapsing in the wave of the crowd while others try to lift the fainted. With the gathering swelling around the barricades, screams can be heard as volunteers rush forward.
In the middle of the confusion, Vijay pauses his address and gestures to the public to calm down. The actor-turned-TVK chief can also be seen throwing bottles of water towards the crowd, trying to provide relief as several supporters fainted due to overcrowding and heat.

The NDTV report cited Eyewitnesses as stating that, the surge began when sections of the audience tried to push forward to catch a closer glimpse of Vijay, who had arrived hours late after attending a rally in Namakkal. Police sources estimated nearly 30,000 people had filled the venue, far exceeding capacity.
Ambulances struggled to enter the congested streets, forcing volunteers to form human chains to move the injured. Many were rushed to Karur Medical College Hospital, while others were taken to facilities in Erode and Tiruchirappalli.
Officials confirmed at least 36 deaths, including children and women, with more than 40 people injured.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock at the tragedy and has ordered a judicial inquiry led by retired High Court judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also sought a report from the state government.
