Chennai Weather: Chennai is likely to experience light to moderate showers this weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting partly cloudy skies and brief spells of rain in some areas. Maximum temperatures in the city are expected to stay around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover near 28 degrees Celsius.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast For Several Districts
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has said that changes in the westerly wind pattern could bring rain to many parts of Tamil Nadu. Moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is expected till 1 AM in 23 districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, Villupuram, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode, Karur and Trichy.
Additionally, eight districts such as Pudukkottai, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Nilgiris may receive light showers in the same period.

Rainfall Recorded Across State
Rainfall activity has been reported in several parts of southern Tamil Nadu, while northern districts saw only isolated spells. Puducherry and Karaikal, however, remained dry. In Coimbatore district, Valparai PTO, Cincona and Chinnakalar each recorded 4 cm of rainfall.
On Friday, Madurai Airport recorded the state’s highest temperature at 40.5 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Karur Paramathi reported the lowest minimum at 21.5 degrees celsius.
According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation earlier located over Vidarbha has now shifted towards south Madhya Pradesh, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level and tilting southwards with height. Meanwhile, the trough running from South Chhattisgarh to North Kerala has become less marked.
The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain at isolated locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between September 2 and 5.
