Chennai Traffic Update: In view of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Annai Velankanni Tirutala at Besant Nagar from August 29 to September 8, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions and diversions at several key locations. The celebrations will begin with a grand flag hoisting on Friday, August 29 and will continue till September 8, Monday. According to the traffic advisory, traffic restrictions will be in place on August 29-31 and September 7-8.

Authorities have urged commuters to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly during the celebrations to avoid inconvenience. “In view of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Annai Velankanni Tirutala, Besant Nagar (Aug 29–Sep 8), traffic diversions will be in effect on key dates. ( 29.8.25, 31.8.25, 01-9-25, 7.9.25 & 8.9.25). Motorists are requested to cooperate,” the traffic advisory read.

Chennai Traffic Advisory: Check Alternate Routes

- Vehicles heading towards Besant Avenue and Besant Nagar Bus Terminus from the Thiru-Vi-Ka Bridge and S.V. Patel Road will not be allowed to go beyond Aavin Park (ML Park). Instead, they can reach their destination via L.B. Road.

- According to the advisory, vehicles will not be allowed to go towards Annai Velankanni Church from the Junction of 7th Avenue and M.G. Road Jn.

- Authorities have announced restrictions and diversions for public transport as well. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses bound for the Besant Nagar Terminus via Besant Avenue will take an alternative route. They will take L.B. Road, turn left onto Shasthri Nagar 1st Avenue, then right onto Shasthri Nagar 1st Main Road, move along M.G. Road, and finally enter Besant Nagar 1st Main Road to reach their destination.

- Additionally, MTC buses going from Besant Nagar Bus Terminus to Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar will follow an alternate route to reach their destination. The MTC buses will go via Besant Nagar 1st Avenue, proceed along Shasthri Nagar 1st Avenue, turn left onto Shasthri Nagar 1st Main Road, and then right onto M.G. Road to reach L.B. Road, from where they can continue on their regular routes.
