Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across 11 districts of Tamil Nadu and issued a yellow alert for Chennai on Monday, advising residents to prepare for intense showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Vellore’s Latteri and surrounding areas recorded particularly heavy rainfall, causing Pallathur Lake near Latteri to reach full capacity and overflow.
Districts expected to see heavy rainfall include Coimbatore and Tiruppur, especially in the hilly areas, along with Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, and Namakkal. Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, and Dharmapuri are also under a heavy rain watch.
Chennai and its suburbs are likely to remain partly cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall and occasional thunder and lightning in the evening or night. The city’s maximum temperature is expected between 32 and 33 Degree Celsius, with a minimum around 26 Degree Celsius.

On October 16, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky.
On October 17, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky.
On October 18, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky and a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm accompanied by lightning.
On October 19, the temperature will be around 32/26 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky in the morning, becoming generally cloudy by evening or night with a possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squall.
Between October 1 and 11, Dharmapuri, which normally receives 314.2 mm of rainfall during the monsoon, recorded 125.8 mm. Krishnagiri and Tirupattur received 121.7 mm and 113.8 mm, respectively, against their seasonal averages of 278.7 mm and 266.3 mm. In the past 24 hours ending 8:30 pm on Saturday, Marandahalli in Dharmapuri recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 18 cm.
The IMD forecast for the next five days indicates continued heavy rain over ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Nilgiris, Theni, Tenkasi, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchy, Salem, and Namakkal, driven by upper air circulation.
