Tamil Nadu Weather: Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for Tamil Nadu over the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency has attributed this pattern to ongoing atmospheric circulations over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, which, after intensifying, will lead to the formation of a low-pressure area.

An upper air cyclonic circulation is now prevalent across the west-central and adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal. Also, another circulation is expected to form over the east-central Arabian Sea by Wednesday, perhaps developing into a low-pressure system by Thursday. This system is expected to travel northward, delivering extensive rain to Tamil Nadu.

The IMD has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several districts:

In scattered locations in the Nilgiris area, severe to extremely heavy rain is expected on May 20. Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, and Tiruvannamalai districts are all expected to have isolated areas of heavy rainfall.
