Chennai Weather: Chennai experienced cooler weather and overcast skies for the second day in a row on Monday, with residents noticing a clear dip in temperatures. The Regional Meteorological Centre said similar conditions are likely to continue over the next few days.

Temperature Likely To Remain Low

According to the weather office, minimum temperatures may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until January 16. In Chennai and nearby districts, the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may reach 29 degrees Celsius. This pattern is likely to continue until January 18.

Cloudy Skies Over Chennai And Nearby Districts

Officials said the sky will remain partly cloudy over Chennai and its surrounding areas. On Monday, Poonamallee recorded the lowest temperature in the city at 20.1 degrees Celsius. Ennore Port followed with 20.4 degrees, while Meenambakkam recorded temperatures between 21.4 and 21.7 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall Expected At Isolated Places

The weather bulletin stated that light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Some areas in south Tamil Nadu may receive rain at a few locations, while north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry could see rainfall at isolated spots. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also possible at one or two places on January 13. Similar rain conditions are expected on January 14.

From January 16 to 18, dry weather is likely to prevail across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, officials said.

Rainfall Recorded In Several Districts

Rainfall data between 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM on Monday showed that Mayiladuthurai received the highest rainfall at 47.5 mm. Karaikal recorded 44 mm, followed by Aduthurai in Thanjavur district with 32 mm and Perambalur with 23.5 mm.

South Tamil Nadu Remains Overcast

Weather conditions in south Tamil Nadu remain unchanged, with cloudy skies dominating most of the day. Sunshine has been limited to short afternoon spells, while overcast conditions continue during the remaining hours, according to officials.
