Chennai News: The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) department has launched an air-conditioned double-decker sightseeing bus service in Chennai. The initiative was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister M K Stalin and aims to offer tourists a curated, time-efficient tour of the city’s key heritage, cultural and administrative landmarks.

The launch ceremony took place at the Nandambakkam Trade Centre, marking the formal rollout of the service for tourists and city travellers. TTDC has secured all required permits and finalised the route for the initial phase.

Tamil Nadu Intra-City Bus Service: Route

  • The sightseeing tour will start from the TTDC office on the Wallajah Road and follow a circular road. 

  • The route will cover key landmarks within the city like the Munro Statue on Anna Salai, Madras High Court, Reserve Bank of India building, Secretariat, Napier Bridge and Ezhilagam. 

  • It will then go to the Foreshore Estate along the Marina stretch.

  • The bus will then return to the starting point via the DGP office.

How Will This Double-Decker Bus Service Benefit Tourists?

The bus service is designed as a short-duration city tour and will be ideal for people who are looking to explore the city of Chennai. Additionally, the elevated seating of the double-decker bus is expected to provide pictorial snapshots of the city. 

The tourism department will monitor passenger feedback during the trial phase and may expand routes, add more landmark stops and increase service frequency based on demand and operational feasibility.

Heritage Development Initiatives Along Coastal Chennai

The launch of this heritage exploration bus service coincided with the ongoing heritage development initiatives along the coastal part of the city under the supervision of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and Greater Chennai Corporation. According to officials, the ongoing heritage projects will receive a major boost due to the launch of the new sightseeing service.
