Tamil Nadu Weather: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, including - Puducherry, and Karaikal, These places will also experience thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds till May 25. Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai will also see rain till May 27. The weather pattern is due to the prevailing atmospheric circulations over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify forming a low-pressure area.
“The conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Tamilnadu; some more parts South and Central Bay of Bengal, Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period,” said IMD, Chennai in its bulletin.
“An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over South Interior Karnataka & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” IMD, Chennai added.

May 24: Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm & lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area.
May 25: Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area.

Southwest Monsoon Update
Monsoon 2025 is expected to arrive over Kerala during the next four to five days, ahead of the usual schedule of June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday. According to IMD data, if the monsoon arrives in Kerala before time, it will be the earliest onset over the Indian mainland since 2009, when it began on May 23. Earlier, IMD had forecast the onset by May 27.
“Conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area, some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, some more parts South and Central Bay of Bengal, Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during the same period,” the IMD said.
