Tamil Nadu Rains: A new low-pressure region is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal strengthened into Cyclone Fengal last week, which made landfall close to Puducherry and severely damaged Puducherry and northern Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations are still going on.
The next low-pressure area is expected to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal and proceed west-northwest till it reaches the Sri Lankan coast on December 9, according to the IMD. By December 12, it is anticipated to intensify into a depression close to Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
Consequently, rain is expected in Tamil Nadu's southern coastal regions on December 12 and 13, according to the IMD.
As cyclonic storm Fengal approached the shore just last week, Tamil Nadu was battered by intense rain and strong gusts.

Rainfall in coastal areas started off as sporadic on the evening of November 29 and eventually became consistent, causing waterlogging in a number of locations.
On both sides of the adjacent Velachery flyover, a large number of people from the low-lying Madipakkam area parked their vehicles. Roads were mostly abandoned, and police, fire and rescue teams and civic workers were stationed in all areas that were susceptible.
Flight arrival and departure times were somewhat impacted. Chennai Metro Rail notified the public of parking spaces in some stations that were vulnerable to flooding and stated that its services were running well.
Police erected barricades to prevent access to popular beaches, including Mamallapuram and the Marina, because the sea was quite choppy.
